Christmas in Spain

1. In Spain people go to “The Mass of the Rooster “ or “La Misa Del Gallo”, because a rooster crowed when Jesus was born.

2. Families eat on Christmas Eve a dinner with Turkey and mushrooms. In the north-west of Spain people eat seafood for Christmas Day.

3. On Christmas Eve people walk with torches. They play guitars and beat drums. The song says is “Tonight is the good night and it is not night to sleep'

4. In Spain they said “Happy Christmas” is many languages. In spanish it is 'Feliz Navidad'; in catalan it's 'Bon Nadal'; and in Galician 'Bo Nadal'.

5. In Spain people celebrate Epiphany on 6th January. It 'The festival of the three Magic Kings', when the Kings brought gifts to the baby Jesus.

6. On Epiphany the Children have more presents than Christmas Day. Children believe that the Kings bring presents to them at Epiphany.

7. Children write letters to the Kings asking for toys. On Epiphany Eve they leave shoes under the Christmas Tree to be filled with presents.

8. If the children have been bad, the Kings might leave pieces of coal made out of sugar in the presents!
